Red Altum Flora Discus, Thick Pattern

During the early ’90s, basketball was quickly becoming an international phenomenon. As the game grew, the NBA suddenly became a global brand. It was during this era that basketball sneakers were more than just about performance, they became a fashion must-have and later cultural icons. The Converse Voltage was one of the most iconic sneakers of the ’90s. The shoes quickly got attention due to the voltage pattern that striped from heel to toe. I was easily reminded of the red and white version of this shoe while gazing upon this particular fish. The actual pattern on the fish does have a very strong resemblance to that of the shoe. It reminded me of the young Latrell Sprewell scoring at will wearing a Golden State Warriors jersey. It also reminded me of the mid-’90s Georgia team that wore voltage-inspired jerseys during the NCAA tournament. This fish may well be a good reminder for how fun and exciting basketball culture was in the ’90s, long before Latrell Sprewell choked his own coach or announcing to the world that he does have a family to feed. Sure, the fish may not be athletic but it does look electric.
