Royal Blue Turquoise Cross Discus

Last year I went hiking in the Lake District in England. I remember throwing on my 50 pound backpack and heading out onto the trails. The mountain I was destined to tackle was looming in the distance, ominous among the darkening clouds about to open up into an impending rain shower.

The trek up the treacherous hill was a slog – each step seemed increasingly tougher, the backpack seemed to be getting heavier, and my mind was growing weary with doubts. I continued to push on, with my sights set on the beauty waiting for me at the top of the mountain.

I had read about an alpine lake perched at the top of this craggy peak, with bright blue waters, brown boulders surrounding the edges, and waves emanating from seemingly nowhere. As I reached the top of the mountain, the sky miraculously cleared, leaving me with impeccable views of the waters below.

The beauty and awe that struck me in that moment is reminiscent of the Royal Blue Turquoise Cross Discus – the incredible blue is mixed perfectly with the brown and golden streaks, as if the water is interspersing directly with the mountainous terrain. Looking at this fish swimming by is like climbing a mountain. The unique mixture of colors and designs, the transition from dark to light, and the fascination to see more – that’s the sign of beauty.
