Heckel Cross Discus, Burgundy Base

Karl was an aquarium enthusiast he was experienced in taking care of quite an array of discus. His favorite was the Heckel Cross Discus. That morning, had called me to say that his latest baby – as he would call his additions had arrived and he wanted us to have a welcoming party. What a thing to say, but perhaps he knew I wouldn’t refuse him because I was a sucker for art and beautiful creatures. So I went for the homecoming party so to speak. I just couldn’t believe my eyes. What a lovely, delicate and yet sophisticated discus swam in front of me. I almost cried. Not because of its beauty, even though such a magical alteration between the color red and brown on the discus’ exterior almost made me, but because it reminded me of the day I watched, The Notebook. It was just an ordinary day and seated besides me had been my then boyfriend Karl. But towards the end of the movie, as old Allie danced with Noah in her red dress suit, Karl had stood up to draw the curtains revealing the most beautiful golden horizon I had ever seen. I was drawn to the sun but as I approached the window a note was written in bold, will you marry me?

The heckle cross discus in burgundy base that Karl had brought home had the same beautiful golden red color and it reminded me once again the day I said yes. Isn’t it amazing how this beautiful fish can bring back memories just by one glimpse of it?
