There are pros and cons to breeding discus in a planted aquarium tank. Plants can be very beneficial to breeding discus, but they can also cause problems. On the pro side, a breeding pair will find is easier to setup and defend a spawning site with a nice arrangement of plants. The plants also help keep the water quality high, which make discus very happy.

On the con side, it is hard to feed discus a large supply of food without contaminating a planted tank. Uneaten food left in the tank will cause problems with the quality of the water.
