It used to be that fine art was a stuffy person’s thing. And the art was as stuffy as they were. Their noses up in the air. The better to see all those zeros on the fine-print price tags.

In walks Keith Haring, and the stuffiness stops. Basquiat takes the lion’s share of praise for definitive Eighties artists. But Haring, a great mate of his, proves equally incendiary. The live-wire, graffiti-like lines and grooves and patterns in his work become the arteries and veins of all of New York City downtown culture. See “Untitled (Dancing Dogs), 1981” or “The Last Rainforest, 1989” and you’ll see what I mean.

Now Keith sadly died way before his time. But one glance at these Classic Red Eagle Discus instantly reminds me of the raw, refined power of his artwork. Their mottled lava-red lines converge and collide with an elegance and electricity that pulsates through the tank, straight through to your aesthetic-loving heart.

I wonder if Haring maybe saw these in a daydream? More artists ought to gaze on aquatic darlings like these. The better to see the possibilities of beauty on the canvas.

Keith Harings are selling in the eight figures these days. But what if that art reincarnated into something equally alive, something swimming?

Fly like an eagle to these Eighties pop-art lovelies.

Both Discus arrive fine and looks great thank you and acclimating well. I was home to receive them. I guess I didn’t have the lights off long enough. I turned the lights on this morning (about 24 hrs after receiving). I will shut them off for another day because the larger discus, the Classic Red Eagle Discus, still won’t eat yet. I have tried Brine shrimp and flake food. Do you know what he was used to eating?

From Michael: Everything I feed is available for sale in my food section. Feel free to poke around for ideas. Make sure you bump the temperature up to the high side: 87-88F for a few days for new fish.
