German Red Turquoise Discus, Blue Base
$44.00 – $159.00
This giant blue red German monster is sure to add a powerful touch to even the most complete collection. Streaks of blood red run through an iridescent body, creating the classic “Red Turquoise” effect originally pioneered by Eduard Schmidt-Focke.

Thank you very much.

Have two pair spawning with fry, but they all disappear soon.
I can’t get too close to the tank or they all hide.
All 3 discus arrived safe and sound! This was my first time ordering fish online so I was a bit nervous, but they're doing well. I have them in a quarantine setup and they're still a bit shy. Offered some food to them today but they didn't eat yet from what I saw. Will try some bloodworms tomorrow, I have other discus and that's what got them eating. Thank you very much. :)
Out of all of the Discus, 6 of them, have decided to be 3 pairs, and are guarding eggs!
Hello! All 6 fish arrived alive and are stunning! However, and I am admittedly inexperienced with identifying this species, 4 of them look nearly identical to me. I ordered 6 different varieties but 4 of them look like the same type, German red turquoise, and then there's a yellow one that I don't recognize. Maybe it is supposed to be the golden pigeon leopard but it has virtually no red on it. And the super eruption is definitely correct. I will send you some pics I have but I didn't get any of the yellow one so I'll have to send you his pic tomorrow after work. Let me know what you think, I didn't recognize any as red tiger, blue knight or golden pigeon. Thank you!
They are doing great and are still really beautiful!! Jadyn From Michael: Jadyn, you're a collector of discerning taste in discus. I'll be eagerly watching your progress. Congrats on building a tier-1 collection in such a short period of time.
Thank you again, Joe
Discus all arrived in good shape. The bags were all very hot(very warm), the Cardinals, and the Cory’s didn’t do so well with the heat. But, I’m not a complainer. The Discus are what I was concerned with. Here are some pictures. They went into my display tank, I had Angels in it, and moved them into a different tank. I’m hoping that they don’t need any meds in the tank. O’yea, all of them are eating.
I lucky, I have a pair. This morning I saw many eggs.
As I said yesterday, I could not be happier with my discus. I thought I sent photos earlier but maybe they didn't go through. These fish are growing and getting more beautiful every day. They eat Omega One Flakes and frozen brine shrimp but their favorite food is frozen bloodworms which they are willing to take from my hand. Thank you, Michael, for sending me the best of the best!
Yes everything is fine. Thank you.
Michael, they all sparked up in a few hours. I did make a mistake and let the water in the bags into the tank. Its new water settled for a week, then one week with about 8 small fish, 2 crayfish and a snail. I am running 2 filters (75 Gal rating for each) on each side of my 65 Gallon aquarium and they have the bio filters that spin in front as the water exists the filter. I have a bag to absorb hardness in one filter. The water yesterday (before the intro of new fish) tested perfect in all the 5 test areas. PH is 7.0. Water temp 76 degrees. From Michael: Your water temperature is way too cold. Check my FAQs page for correct params.
Good morning, Mike. 2 weeks ago you sold me fish over 1500$. I have some questions...
I am very satisfied with this discus. This discus is really graceful .Michael was really kind to remind me that the fish was being delivered to my house today. He is a really nice guy and he really explained to me what to do.
The fish arrived and all look great after a few hours in the aquarium.
These are not what I ordered. The first order, I ordered 2 blue, 2 turquoise and 2 green. The greens are actually brown/orange. 1 died that you did not replace. These fish are no where near the quality I first ordered. They were eating swimming around... no dark stress bars... just absolutely no color. From Michael: You're confusing all the different strains from your 1st order and incorrectly identifying the fish. Your fish were starved for 48 hours prior to being shipped to you. They are stressed and hungry, and it's normal for them to not exhibit color for the first few weeks. Also, you ordered baby fish, which by nature will be much more drab compared to full grown adults. Please email me privately.
The rest are looking great swimming around, but this 1 blue one has been on its side. I acclimated them all together at same time. I’m trying to get pictures right now to post some reviews.
Hello Michael, the fish were picked up at the airport at 4:00 am on the night they arrived in Chattanooga, they were acclimated and placed in my 55 gallon tank that already housed 8 small angelfish and two small pepper corydoras. They all appeared lively and slowly making their way around the tank. I had all the lights off in the tank and in the room. temperature was 78 degrees in the tank at that time, I increased the heaters and by the next day and the temp is now 83 degrees Fahrenheit. i did not feed them the first day. I fed them today with Tetracolor Tropical Granules and they began to pick at it, then they ate it. one of the four Discus is not swimming around with the others and is staying off to itself behind some of the plastic plants near the bottom. It is slightly darker than it should be, it is a Schmidt-Focke Red Turquoise Blue Based. It has small whitish spots and areas beginning to appear more obvious than yesterday. It has a normal breathing pattern and is using both fins, and I haven't seen it eat yet. can you tell me if you know what might help this fish? PH is between 6.9 and 7.0 and GH is 60ppm and KH is40ppm. Nitrite is 0.5, and Nitrate is 30. I have not yet tested ammonia. filtration is three Fluval 50 filters and one air stone. Also Michael, although you picked nice fish for me, I would have preferred that the Red Turquoise Markings were more in a horizontal pattern, they look very much like a Tiger Turquoise with such vertical patterns on the bodies. If I could swap them out for horizontal pattern, I would. Pleasant and easy transaction with Michael at Discus.com everything went smoothly and the Discus were waiting at the local airport when I got there. smooth process from acclimation to transfer. Great looking, Healthy and robust Discus, Larger than I was expecting. I will be adding additional Discus soon! Thanks again, Nelson V.
They all came in alive! I did not know to quarantine them so I hope they'll do okay! Only one of them looked dead for a while but after I put him in he eventually got up and started swimming.
These are the best I could get, hope they work out, thanks. I had some manzanita that was amazing but was hard to do maintenance around so I removed it, thanks for the tips.
They all arrived and look like they’re in great condition! I love the fish you chose for me. I have ordered from online fish stores before and have had many bad experiences but the fish you sent me look so vibrant and healthy! I will definitely be ordering from you again!
Photos of discus I received and missing one of the blue snakeskin.
Finally, here should be the photos of the fish received on Friday. All are doing well. Colors and striping are more than anticipated! My dream is using this for future foundation breeding stock.
Fish arrived tonight. First off, WOW are they beautiful Michael!!! Went right into their quarantine tank. Four are doing great and are swimming and look happy. Two are quite distressed. One is upright laying slightly to side on bottom of tank. The other is totally on his side. Both are breathing so I'm hoping for best. They are beautiful and if hate to lose them.
Michael, Update: All 6 discus are doing great. The two distressed have rebounded and ate. The Penang Blue Knight is stunning. I may get another soon (would be terrific if I ended up with a breeding pair) ha ha ha. Pics will be sent when I get home from work tonight. --Andrea
The middle 2 are yours. From Michael: May I have them back? :-)
Hey Mike, hope all is well! Just wanted to share some pics of the new tank...the San Merah is my favorite!
Best regards,
Matt
They look good so far, they’re in a bucket acclimating, the last one that was floating sideways has now started swimming around, I have an air stone in with them while they acclimate.
Hey Mike! FANTASTIC as far as I can tell! They arrived 530 last night and I spent like 2 1/2 hours acclimating them as you instructed. I got everybody into the tank and did not have anybody that looked injured...so far, so good this morning. Seems they are getting used to everything and I think they are eating. I have been using no light...LOL!! So I'll be able to REALLY SEE everybody and everything Sunday night at 8pm. I'll give you a better update and pics. THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!! I know that they are beautiful already because you picked them out!!! (Sorry this is so late to get to you...I tried calling you twice today...but again, I know your busy.) Catch ya on Monday morning with some pics after the REAL REVEAL!!!! I can't wait!!!!
Everyone is doing fine! They are getting used to their new home and no problems that I can see. You did a Fantastic Job Mike!! Thank you for all you have done!!
So good to hear from you. I hope you’re doing well. I called a little bit ago, I left a VM. I was calling because I’d really like to make an order, but the issue is the ‘High Bodied Crimson Star Alenquer, 4.0-4.5’. I’d like to get everything delivered by the 17th of January. It’s a little bit pricer than my previous fish. Do you have an especially good looking one, that you could earmark for me? I’ll place the order immediately after I hear from you. All of the other fish….are gorgeous-Thank you. I’ve attached a few photos.
I have received the fish but the fish tank is broken, there is 1 fish with a broken bag and the water overflows I am following as instructed and waiting until tomorrow if there is any problem I will message you.
All of them swim happily. Thank you, you have awesome quality of fish.
The fish came in yesterday, and as always you picked beauties! They seem happy and healthy. I only wish my tank were bigger so that I could have more. Thanks as always.
Hi Mike, Here are some pictures as requested. They ate some beefheart mix earlier today (mostly the German turquoise). Altums are mostly hanging out near the top and sides but occasionally swim around.
Hey Michael, Tim Gangway here is a couple of pics of the fish. By the way the plant look great! Thanks!
Michael, the Discus looks great and is a voracious eater. Thank you for your follow up and the spectacular quality of your animals. Hello Michael, attached are pictures of new Discus and other tanks in our house. Discus tanks is 0 Nitrate, 6.5 PH. Thank you!
This is one of the ones I like the most.

Hi Michael,
The fish arrived ok. For the first 3 days they were not coming put even to eat in the dark. Last night both of them started picking up small specks of frozen brine shrimp. I am happy with both fish. The only thing is I expected the colors to be much brighter, such as more distinct blue and yellow.
Thank you. Nadine
From Michael: You ordered small fish, and you cannot compare them to fully mature adult specimens.
Yes, everything has arrived. The melon was a bit stressed, but seems to be recovering. I'll be ordering again soon. Thanks!
Both Discus arrive fine and looks great thank you and acclimating well. I was home to receive them. I guess I didn’t have the lights off long enough. I turned the lights on this morning (about 24 hrs after receiving). I will shut them off for another day because the larger discus, the Classic Red Eagle Discus, still won’t eat yet. I have tried Brine shrimp and flake food. Do you know what he was used to eating?
David
From Michael: Everything I feed is available for sale in my food section. Feel free to poke around for ideas. Make sure you bump the temperature up to the high side: 87-88F for a few days for new fish.
They arrived safely, they look great, and are doing well. Thank you! James
I did get them in the tank ASAP because of how late they arrived. The eruption and one German Blue are swimming around fine. The two German Reds are hiding but seem okay. The one German Blue is floating at the top and tries to swim every now and then but not much. All five are alive and seem to be doing well. Thank you for your patience with me and the information you shared! I will send pictures once I turn the lights on. They are beautiful!
Hi Michael! I'm sorry I've been so out of touch lately. But yes the discus are doing great, the are beautiful and super healthy thank you a lot! I will definitely order from your site again.
Hi Michael, The discus are starting to venture out and explore their new surroundings. Their colors have began to come out nicely. The German Red Turquoise Discus, Blue Base are nice large healthy fish. Thank you for picking out such nice fish! I also like the Altum Flora Discus, Blue Base, they are each unique in their pattern and together they all make a nice “blues wave” of color in the planted tank! I will be ordering more in the future. I am attaching a few images! Thanks again for great service and beautiful fish! Mark
Hey Michael! I think it has been super easy and so far your fish have arrived looking as they do in the photos, which I know is a hard thing to capture depending on their size and maturity but so far I am very very happy.
I just want to make sure the things were right there's no problem on my end I will order from you in the future no hard feelings here and I am just getting into this so not sure on the colors thank you guys very much have a great evening. Thank you very much for everything I'm enjoying them already.
My German Red Turquoise blue base discus is bigger than what I paid for and has very striking blue coloration on him he is eating great and settled right in.
Michael went above and beyond making sure I was happy with my purchase. He answered questions promptly and gave me bigger Discus than what I paid for. The 11 discus that I have are beautiful and eating great.
Feeding time!! Just wanted to share a few more pictures of our beautiful crew!! We are so happy with them, if we had a bigger tank I definitely would have bought more from you, great quality discus!! You have many more selections and healthy discus. If I recommend to my family and friends, I will definitely tell them about discus.com!
Dear Mr. Li: After receiving a shipping, I noticed the Red Fuji Discus has a lot of black spots on gills and fins. I though that was from the natural born, but after 2 days, others fish stated having black spots on gills, fins, and body. On the day three, all the fish got it. I started raised the temperature to 88 and used API-General Cure for treatment. Try to hold off my second shipment for one week or two. Anything I can do to help my fish. I am new to discus. Thank you, An From Michael: The small black spots are what is called peppering in discus. It is normal for any pigeon strain, and does not indicate the fish are sick.
Hi Michael Li, I’m Coco. The fishes came safely and healthy. I still keep the light off so that I can’t see them clearly. But I think they are good. Thank you for choosing me beautiful fishes. I and my husband love them a lot.
Absolutely beautiful! It was love at first site as I unpacked each bag!
My order was sent by FedEx all around the country before finally making it to me. Transit time was 50 hours. Thank heavens for Michael. He was supportive, and shipped very healthy fish. On delivery the boxes and bags were cold to the touch. I put all the poor flat stiff fish in a warm QT tank. This fish was a survivor- I lost a couple but most survived. Photo taken 2 days later, I know his color will continue to improve as he recovers. I can’t stress enough how supportive Michael was, even though it was the holiday season…
Thank you, the fish arrived pretty healthy.
Got the shipment. The discus & rams look very good.
Review for first order: I am a nursing home nurse, and work is very stressful. My husband gifted me a 120g tank, and 3 months later I started hunting discus. I am so glad I ordered from this website! I placed my second order within a week, because the first 6 were so pretty. I can't seem to take a good photo because I need to change my background- but trust me the fish are great!
