The heckel discus is one of the hobby’s most iconic and desirable strains. Even collectors that swear by colorful hybrids always seem to be yearning to keep a pure heckel or two in their collection. Why? Simply because it can be the perfect way to remind a keeper of the fascinating discus hobby’s wild roots and origins — especially in a planted aquarium. In other words, a heckel discus may provide a nostalgic outlet and emotional release for its owner.

Hi Michael, I’ll definitely get you some better pictures when they are settled in. Got the Paraguard going. My one-eyed discus was reintroduced at the same time and is doing very well! Very happy about this. By chance I got a couple pictures of the new 4 hanging out together. My first shot at wild discus and they don’t disappoint.

Fantastic looking wild discus body color very light yellow with a bold heckle strip in the middle. Nose to tail lighter bars: fins and tail are a light blue with a tinge of red on the tips. Will stand out in any discus tank. Their disposition is like all domestic discuss calm and community-oriented. Do not let their wild status fool you! Friendly to all tank mates feed on frozen blood worms and discus pellets. My tank is at 87 degrees color is vibrant. Great choice for the collector.
